Loving Top Handle Cross Body Bags

Before I was a crossbody kind of gal, I was all about the satchels.  In my opinion, top handle bags look so classy.  Both when they are on a table, standing alone and when worn on the crook of your arm or in your hand.

But then came life and I was traveling for work internationally where I couldn’t be bothered with having to worry about if I could carry it plus my suitcases and my work bag and I could keep things safely close to my body .  While traveling, I started downsizing the amount of things I brought in my bag and the cross body bags I liked were smaller than the satchels I used to carry.

But now, my two main bag preferences are colliding and I’m loving it!

The bag that started it all is the Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis in Empreinte Noir.  The Pochette Metis in the regular Monogram Canvas has been popular for a few years, but it wasn’t until they released it in their Empreinte leather that I really became interested.
I love its more rectangular shape, subtle top handle, roominess, flash of the hardware clasp.

These bags now have the convenience and the classy looks of both the crossbody bag and a top handle bag. Crossbody – you can fling it over your shoulder, or have it more secure across your body. Top Handle – you can just grab the handles and go, which is great when you’re getting out of the car, or leaving a restaurant. I also think the top handle can elevate a more casual cross body to a more lady like or structured look of a satchel, while keeping its convenient size.

The Rebecca Minkoff Hudson Moto Mini is a great example a crossbody + top handle.  This style is originally a cross body bag but a little top handle gives it a little extra oomph, polish and convenience.  I love that it has their signature hardware but in this case its just decorative and stays closed with a standard snap closure.

The Loeffler Randal Mini Rider definitely takes inspiration from a more structured menswear wardrobe but in its mini size it easily crosses over to more feminine outfits and the pale pink color is gorgeous for spring/summer.  The Loeffler Randal Mini Rider and its big brother, Rider, are probably the most similar to the Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis in the hardware and subtle top handle style.
